Narcissists are known for their inflated egos, lack of empathy and self-centered behavior. Obviously, this type of behavior can negatively affect things such as relationships and job performance. Recent research also suggests that narcissism may facilitate aggressive driving and increase the odds for car accidents on roadways in Michigan and across the country.
Aggressive driving
Aggressive driving often includes behaviors such as tailgating, speeding, tailgating, horn honking, running traffic signals, swearing or making obscene gestures at other motorists. Aggressive drivers pose a major risk to all those around them. According to recent statistics, about half of all traffic fatalities in the United States can be linked to aggressive driving. Studies suggest that narcissists are also prone to be aggressive drivers.
Narcissism
Obviously, it’s easy to get frustrated when caught in traffic jams or behind slow drivers. Despite temporary frustration, most people care enough about passengers and those around them to make their safety a priority. This is not the case for narcissists. Narcissists often have a sense of entitlement and think that they are not bound by normal rules. This makes narcissists more likely to engage in aggressive or careless driving habits.
Unfortunately, it is impossible to control the actions of other drivers. Those who get behind the wheel of a motor vehicle should remain focused and vigilant at all times. Any person in Michigan who suffers injuries or the loss of loved ones due to negligence in car accidents can take action and pursue rightful damages by contacting a knowledgeable and skilled litigator.
